Stacy Ikard Huntsville AL 35801

Stacy Ikard is an active adult learning development and mental health educator and therapist from the greater Birmingham, Alabama area. She has been a certified therapist for three years in the counseling, adult and special education fields, and a member of the American Counseling Association since 2020. This past year, she was elected to serve as a member of the advisory board for the Birmingham, Alabama Department of Mental Health. She was also a member of the staff at the Counseling Center for Behavioral Health and Development in Birmingham, Alabama.

I met Stacey while I was looking for a new therapist. I had just started therapy for my anxiety and depression and needed to find someone who was qualified and experienced. The counselor I was working with didn’t have much training or experience in treating people with ADD/ADHD or even anxiety and depression. She would come to our weekly sessions with a list of all the things we had done that week that I would have to do, but we were always late. She would talk to me about how much more time it would take me to complete things and would always ask if I wanted to be on a work period or not. I had to make myself go to work and do other things while she sat down with my parents or would ask my parents to go with me to get something else, which I hated, or just let them sit there all day waiting.

As the weeks went by, I realized that this was not working, and that she was simply not taking care of me. She made excuses about what it was I was doing at work and when we would meet, why we couldn’t meet. My work hours were going from early in the morning until late at night. When I mentioned this to her, she said she could take the extra time off to see me, but it would be inconvenient. She would leave work at 5 p.m. to come back late in the evening or even stay later to help me finish work and then leave again at 6 p.m., so that I didn’t have enough time to do anything at home. I finally got fed up with having to run all over town, or drive all over the area trying to find somewhere to meet and ended up hiring someone who was experienced, qualified and trustworthy.
