In the book “The Power of Positive Thinking”, published by Krasner Press, Sharon Harper, M.Ed., LPC Therapist in Birmingham, AL explains the concept that you can’t believe everything you see. Instead, you need to look for clues from the words of those around you. For instance, if your friend talks about the state of the economy, then you might want to look at some of their financial statements and see if they are really saying the things that they are saying, especially when they talk about the “downward spiral”. If you see that there has been a lot of money spent on TV commercials lately, or if you notice that the people they are talking to seem less interested in their lives, then maybe they are projecting something else from their minds. You can’t be too careful these days.

Another example might be when you’re talking to a group of employees at work and you notice that everyone is very happy and smiling. When you ask them how they are feeling, most of them will have a smile on their faces, but there are few that are truly happy. There’s one or two who are not smiling but are not really sad or bothered either. In fact, when you ask them how they feel, they’ll have a blank expression on their face. They’re not saying anything because they don’t know what to say. This means that they have a tendency to see only the positive side of their life and so they do not see the negative effects that can take place in their lives if they don’t make changes.

Sharon also shows you how to find clues in other people, as well. For example, when you are having trouble making a decision in life, ask a friend or co-worker what you should do. Chances are that they will share with you their thoughts and advice so that you can make an informed choice. You’ll be amazed at the answers that you will get, which will make a huge difference in your life.
