Tamara Oliver, a former drug addiction therapist and manager has been invited to present at the opening of an alcohol and drug treatment center in Bessemer, Alabama. She is certified in drug addiction treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and family systems theory. The center’s Director, Ms. Olivera, says that Tamara is an ideal candidate for the position of Drug Rehab Manager due to her background as a former counselor and manager at a rehabilitation clinic in Alabama. She has a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychological Services and has over fifteen years of experience as a licensed substance abuse therapist.

According to the director of the center, Dr. Steven J. Volkoff, Therapists at the newly created center are required to be skilled in substance abuse, social skills, personality development, life skills, coping mechanisms and relapse prevention. The Addiction Treatment System will use a mixed blend of 12-step programs, individual and group therapy, education, and community outreach. A person is considered to be an eligible candidate if they meet the following criteria: have a history of alcohol or drug addiction, exhibit addictive behaviors, have demonstrated significant emotional instability and poor coping abilities, exhibit dysfunctional family systems, and have a problem with self-control. Treatment will begin with the assessment of each patient and will continue through intake, detox, counseling, follow-up care, and support. Patients can choose to enter one of two programs: The Inpatient Care and the Outpatient Care. Inpatient care is reserved for patients that require more intense psychotherapy, medication, or intensive support while inpatient.

If you are interested in becoming a Therapist in the field of substance abuse and/or addiction, you will need to complete a certification program that includes classroom instruction, supervision, practice in a clinical setting, internship, and field work. Upon completion, you will be certified as a Therapist. You will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, treatment centers, private practices, and spiritual centers.
